As the name suggests, NAVA is a feeling of newness, freshness, and modern sophistication. Located in Mumbai, NAVA, a culinary haven founded by the visionary Anushka Pathak and curated by the creative genius Tejal Mathur, unfolds a compelling narrative where food takes center stage. With an astute understanding of the restaurant’s essence, Anushka Pathak, a debutante restaurateur, envisioned a space characterized by a clean monochrome palette and a contemporary ambiance.
The restaurant, strategically positioned on the second floor of a building, boasts a lengthy window offering a panoramic view. Transforming an initially uninspiring shell, the design introduced a spacious balcony for al fresco dining, complemented by expansive white French vintage glass doors that elegantly frame the surroundings. Collaboratively, the design evolved to incorporate European classical elements in the doors and walls, juxtaposed with edgy furniture and lighting, creating a 65-seater restaurant reminiscent of a chic Parisian apartment.
The interior unfolds gradually, featuring non-obtrusive black limestone flooring, subway tiles, and mirrors that seamlessly rejuvenate the structure. Curvaceous sofas redefine the square space, breaking away from a linear formal seating plan. Tufted whites, black marble tops, and softly pleated linen chandeliers infuse a subtle glow, while bespoke tall gold palm frond lamps add a touch of glamour and a connection to nature.
On one side, a linear seating arrangement showcases clean white molded panels adorned with Banksy-inspired prints, adding a surreal and artistic touch. The corner wall, opened up to reveal an ancient Banyan tree, becomes a cozy spot with gold-sheeted library shelves, photography prints, and oversized brass luminaires. A perfect spot for groups of eight, it seamlessly transitions from day to night.
Contrasting with the whites on the tall balcony doors and walls, the opposite wall is adorned with all-black subway tiles and smoky mirrors. Here, a large glass panel exposes the kitchen theatre, akin to a black and white movie where chefs in uniform meticulously craft visually arresting desserts. The bar, inspired by Bareau’s avant-garde design, presents an irregular form clad in clay and punctuated with brass details, creating a captivating contradiction. Comfortable white upholstered stools line the bar, providing a chic setting for late weekend nights.
NAVA is a space where culinary excellence takes center stage, complemented by an artistic and thoughtfully designed ambiance, creating an immersive dining experience that seamlessly blends drama, elegance, and gastronomic delight.
