Ekta Khanna’s latest design masterpiece is a 3000 sq.ft., four-bedroom apartment located on the 25th floor of a high-rise building in Gurugram. The strategic positioning of this residence offers breathtaking views of the city and floods every room with natural light, creating an open and inviting atmosphere. Let’s take a virtual walk through of the apartment, exploring its layout, design elements, and the thought process behind each choice:
A Seamless Journey through Spaces
Upon entering the apartment, visitors are welcomed by a living dining space with a 7-foot deep balcony that wraps around its length, seamlessly extending the indoor spaces towards the outside. A passage to the right leads to private rooms, featuring a study, master bedroom, daughter’s room, and a guest room. The thoughtful layout ensures all rooms at the periphery enjoy direct access to the balcony, emphasizing a harmonious blend of indoor and outdoor living.
Crafting Minimalism to Perfection
The client’s brief sought a minimalist space with tactile finishes and subtle color accents. Founder of her eponymous practice Ekta Khanna Design Studio, Ekta retained existing design elements, such as dark oak-stained doors, and introduced a color palette of creamy off-whites, moody greys, dark browns, and black. The addition of powder blue and dusty green accents brought personality without overwhelming the minimalist aesthetic. This balance between functionality and aesthetics resulted in a cohesive and elegant space.
“Designing the Study/Den was a source of immense satisfaction for me, as it entailed maximizing a compact space while catering to the diverse needs of the client. Within the confines of an 11’6” x 11’6” area, the design transformed the space into a multifunctional haven brimming with character,” reveals Ekta.
The strategic decision to construct a floor-to-ceiling book wall not only fulfilled the client’s desire for ample shelving for books and memorabilia but also infused an air of sophistication into the room. The juxtaposition of black shelving against light oak created a visually appealing contrast, instilling depth and interest throughout the space. The introduction of a compact lounger in a dusty green fabric and a recliner armchair in light grey leather from BoConcept added a layer of comfort and relaxation to the space. The carefully chosen colors infused a personalized touch, contributing to a cohesive and modern design.
Remarkably, despite accommodating a study desk, shelving, a TV, and seating, the space avoided the feeling of being cramped. Every inch of the room was optimized to create a harmonious layout that seamlessly accommodated various functions. The amalgamation of diverse materials, colors, and furniture choices played a pivotal role in crafting a modern, character-filled, and comfortable space that effortlessly met the client’s diverse requirements.
The Essence of Minimalism and Scandinavian Influences
Ekta Khanna embraced a minimalist and partially Scandinavian theme. Monochromes, open-grain oak wood, and textured walls contributed to the sleek and simple interiors. Pops of color broke the monotony, creating a serene and luxurious atmosphere. The decision to feature monochromatic and geometric artwork added a cohesive touch throughout the home.

The Palette that Speaks Volumes
The chosen color palette of creamy off-whites, moody greys, dark browns, and black, complemented by accents of powder blue and dusty green, was a deliberate choice to create a sophisticated and tranquil ambiance. The balance between neutrals and carefully chosen accent colors contributed to the overall harmony within the apartment.
The Pinnacle of Design – A Fluid Space
The USP of this project lies in the serene and calm atmosphere throughout the home. Every design element, from materials to furniture and art curation, has been meticulously thought out, resulting in a fluid space where nothing screams for attention, yet everything seems perfectly pieced together.
