Tucked away in the quiet lanes of Bandra (Mumbai), this home by Jetsons occupies the ground floor of a classic Portuguese bungalow. With 12-foot-high ceilings, no false layering and generous old-world windows, the space breathes and let’s breath. It’s a layout with a large living and dining core that opens out through three distinct passageways—one leading to the kitchen, another to the master bedroom, and the third to a corridor that houses two bathrooms and a compact studio room.
The entire home sits on a bed of neutral-toned wooden PVC flooring, while its material language leans into tactility—textured walls, cane accents, birch-ply, steam beech and slices of existing teak wood passed down by time. There’s a gentle use of curves throughout—on ceilings, edges and built forms—softening the overall volume without taking away from its vintage character.
A custom birch-ply library merges into a daybed nestled by the window. Across from the main door is a white, natural stone-textured feature wall that sets the tone for what follows. A tan-orange sofa anchors the space, paired with a black-and-cane woven coffee and side table. Tucked nearby: a lounge chair with a pouffe for those slower evenings.
The living area flows into the dining space, where a live-edge sourwood table meets blackwood-and-cane chairs. The dining legs are built in BTC wood, sturdy and sculptural. The bar sits adjacent, finished in a deep Armada blue with growing cane pattern shutters and a glass overlay. A floating fluted-glass unit above holds spirits and stories alike, its wall dado mirroring the white natural tiles used in the kitchen nearby.
The kitchen doors are framed in matte black with clear glass panels. Inside, olive-hued laminates, birch ply open shelving, and natural white clay tiles form the quiet trio that defines its mood.
In the primary bedroom, 34 inches of skirting in sunlit terracotta climbs up the walls before it fades into white. But the ceiling is the real head-turner—curving at both ends like folded arms that blend into the adjoining surfaces. The furniture, crafted in natural wood and veneer, echoes this palette. The wardrobe has matte cane shutters, and the bed, headboard and side tables carry cane woven details that feel both handmade and modern. The back wall repeats the stone-textured finish seen in the living space, lit by a matte black hanging lamp that punctuates the warmth with a stark, sculptural contrast.
The studio; used as an office, wardrobe and workspace; leans into an olive-and-white scheme. Refurbished white wardrobe shutters hold mirrors, while a birch-ply study desk sits centred beneath a window flanked by more wardrobes. Function meets form in a quiet, efficient layout designed for a designer.
Throughout the home, older solid wood furniture pieces; many already part of the house; were refreshed and adapted, their finishes reimagined to flow into the new scheme without losing their lived-in charm.
At its heart, the home isn’t trying too hard. It’s a space where material honesty, inherited textures, and a calm, earthy palette come together in tune with its structure. No spectacle, just a considered warmth that lingers.
