What motivates and inspires your design approach? When did you realise your passion for architecture, and what inspired you to pursue it as a career?

Design, to me, is a journey that combines art with functionality. I was inspired to pursue architecture at a young age after witnessing the captivating interplay between light and space inspired my pursuit of architecture. This realisation, along with my fascination for the intricate details of design, set me on the path to a fulfilling career in architecture.

How do you balance the fusion of contemporary design with heritage elements in your projects?

We have meticulously struck a delicate balance between contemporary design and heritage elements. Every choice reflects a thoughtful consideration of modern elements intertwined with cultural and historical nuances, defining the distinctive character of the space. The aim is to fuse these elements to create spaces that endure the test of time and reflect the present and the richness of the past.

What essential elements or principles do you believe every well-designed space should have? How do you balance meeting client preferences and infusing your creative vision into a project?

A well-designed space should balance functionality, aesthetics, and personalisation. Another vital part is natural ventilation and lighting. Our commitment to creating spaces goes beyond mere design; it’s a collaboration. Working closely with our clients, we ensure a tailored masterpiece that reflects their needs and our design philosophy.

Who or what has been your greatest source of inspiration in your architectural career?

One individual who stands out as a continual inspiration is Bill Bensley. His passion for design and the seamless integration of whimsy with practicality in his works profoundly resonates with me, influencing my approach as a designer.

Your participation in various events, panels, and design festivals is noteworthy. How do these engagements shape your perspective and influence your work?

Engaging in events and panels provides invaluable opportunities to exchange ideas with industry peers. It broadens my perspective, keeps me abreast of emerging trends, and encourages a constant evolution in my design philosophy, ultimately influencing the innovative and contemporary touch in Villa Ortiga’s projects.

When not immersed in architecture, what are your interests and hobbies?

Beyond architecture, my interests extend into art, travel, and the diverse cultures that grace our globe. These varied influences seamlessly integrate into my design philosophy, transforming each project at Villa Ortiga into a vibrant canvas of global inspiration.

What are your goals and aspirations for Villa Ortiga in the coming years?

Looking ahead, my vision for Villa Ortiga is to continue pushing the boundaries of design. I aspire for the firm to be at the forefront of creating spaces that redefine luxury, seamlessly blending global appeal with local contexts and contributing to the architectural landscape in a meaningful way.

Any upcoming projects or collaborations you are particularly excited about?

Several exciting projects are on the horizon, including a villa resort in Kasauli, an equestrian club, show homes and villas. Each promises to showcase Villa Ortiga’s unique design imprint, and I am particularly eager to bring these visions to life.
